During our recent visit to this part of California, that’s exactly what we did.
Along the scenic route, there are 12 self-guided nature trails manageable for most everyone. On a beautiful clear day, from the Keys Viewpoint the view of the valley is spectacular and extends even past the Salton Sea into Mexico.

Make your way north on the scenic paved road, stopping at one of the many pull-outs and vistas along the way. Here you can enjoy the views, take short hikes, have a picnic lunch and soak in the beauty nature has to offer.
You will eventually make your way to the north entrances of the park, where you can exit via the Oasis Visitor Center at Twentynine Palms or further west at the Joshua Tree Visitor Center.
Plan A Visit To Historic Keys Ranch In Joshua Tree
Be sure to arrange a tour if you can to the historic Keys Ranch which is located inside the park. This is the old homestead owned by William F. Keys. A true Pioneer, Keys along with his wife and five children made Joshua Tree their home.
